As with most things in the gym, there’s a lot of nuance and context that goes into selecting the best lifting belt for your needs.

If you’re newer to lifting and like to do cross-training, then a velcro belt can be a great starting point.

For powerlifters and athletes getting more specific with their strength work, prong and lever belts can be great options.

At the end of the day, before you buy your next or first lifting belt it’s a good idea to spend a little time doing some research to make sure the weightlifting belt in question aligns with your needs.

  1. I have used a lever belt for years at 10mm. I use my lever belt for stability in doing all types of weight training such and dumb bells training, benching etc etc. Also use my adjustable belt for moving heavy things such as boxes, furniture or heavy items which is why I have one for the gym and one in my car so I know where it is when I need it.
I have had a few strains from work as well as a minor surgery so my belt did help me from injury by keeping me from getting injured again until I healed up so they have a function beyond heavy weight lifting.

  2. People’s first belt is normally a Velcro?! Prongs were the ONLY option back in the day, when a lot of us started.

  3. FYI Eddie Hall is not a beginner and he is in strongman, and he also uses Velcro padded belts and endorses them, soooo, yeah.
